WELCOME TO STANHAVEN

Stanhaven is a tranquil residential estate one kilometre from Stanford. The Kleinrivier forms the northern boundary of the estate and most of the properties enjoy views of the impressive Kleinriviersberge.

Stanhaven comprises 92 erven and is, at the end of June 2025, more than two-thirds developed. The estate provides a rare opportunity to enjoy peaceful country living with the benefits of urban life just a short drive away.

The village of Stanford has a variety of shops including a small grocery store, a plant nursery, a bakery and a deli. It has a number of excellent restaurants, a bottle store, schools and a dentist.

The coastal town of Hermanus is an easy 15 minute drive along an excellent road, and Gansbaai lies a similar distance in the other direction. Between them there are plenty of shopping options ranging from well-known chains to independent stores offering clothing, furnishing, DIY, art galleries and much more. As a result, churches, high schools, exercise classes and excellent medical facilities are within easy reach.

There’s plenty to do in the area which boasts a number of wine farms, walks and hiking trails, sandy beaches and rocky coves and – in winter – whale watching.

If you are thinking of relocating, the Overberg area is highly recommended.

ABOUT STANFORD

Stanford is a quaint heritage village in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It lies alongside the Kleinrivier as it meanders through Stanford into the country’s fifth most important estuary, known locally as the Hermanus lagoon.

Mention was first made of the area around the Kleinrivier in 1707 when Jan Hartog (head gardener of the VOC in the Cape) and his party grazed their cattle during a barter trip to the Overberg at the river then only known by its Hottentot name Gonuka Goggo – or in Dutch the kleijne rivier.

In the following years, the land changed hands a number of times and was sold to Sir Robert Stanford in 1838. The village itself was formally established in 1857. Read more by clicking here Historical Stanford on foot.
